Well on Friday 10th February, me and Syd went to Devon on holiday. It was really good to go back to Exminster and to be away in the caravan again as both me and Syd love going on holiday in the caravan. I won't give you a daily account because we went back to most of our favourite places including:- Dawlish, Teignmouth, Paignton, Torquay, Shaldon, The Exminster Canal, Countess Weare, Exeter, Exmouth, Topsham and on one day we went to Brixham which was a bit different. Why was Brixham different? Well we rarely go quite that far; the tide was in so the harbour looked really picturesque; the town was nice and we even manged to get Max some Almonds in one of the Fruit & Veg shops there. After lunch and a good look around, we found a pub which served cheap Lager and was happy for me and Syd to go in, and we sat looking at the replica of the Golden Hind in the harbour. After a quick drink we went to visit Sharon L from Birdline and see her flock including her African Greys and Norman who was recovering from an illness and a visit to the Vet and Dad made a fool of himself because he thought her Jardine was a miniature Amazon! I must admit he did look a bit like a tiny Amazon. All the birds made me and Syd feel very welcome - no-one was scared of us and weren't scared of them! When we went to Torquay and Paignton we went on the train and on the way back the gaurd came and took photos of us as he hadn't had parrots on his train before. We saw many old friends and made some new ones and we are both hoping Dad takes us again when he goes back in Easter though he is thinking about taking either Phoebe or Georgie or perhaps both of them, so I'll have to wait and see!
At the end of January, when Mum and Dad were in France, Adam and Stacey went to Liverpool and got Fruittee, a Greenwing Macaw who was joining our flock. Fruittee stayed for a couple of weeks but really didn't settle too well. Fruittee's owner's said they would have him back if he didn't settle but Dad really wanted to give him time to settle. After 2 weeks, including a phone call on loudspeaker with Fruittee's previous owner when Fruittee really perked up, Dad decided to return him so on February 1st Mum & Dad drove to Liverpool to return him. On the way they went to view another Greenwing Macaw, this time a baby, and decided to have her. They went on and returned Fruittee and agreed to return for Georgie. When they got Fruittee home, he was a different bird! His owner got him out of the travel cage on the drive as she had had him so many times before. Dad went to say goodbye to him and he took off! He flew down the road and over a house roof and his owners went chasing through people's gardens and, luckily, soon recovered him. All's well that ends well and Dad was pleased that Fruittee was happy. Then they went back to Ashton-under-Lyne to collect Georgie. Dad devotes a lot of time to rescued parrots and I think it is good that he can actually have a bird from a baby and have it develop from scratch as part of our family rather than trying to "reprogramme" parrots into our way of living. To start with Georgie was all flapping wings as she learnt to balance on her feet. She looked so clumsy but is getting there now! She seems to have settled into our routine very well and took no time at all to accept a harness and has already been out to Lacock on the harness (see picture below).
