On Wednesday Dad & Stacey went to Barry to see a couple of "rescue" parrots. They were a Green Cheeked Conure and a Senegal Parrot (like Magic). They are called Molly & Mango and they must have been on their best behaviour because Dad & Stacey felkl in love with them and brought them home. They now have their own page under "Birds" so go and read all about them! What are you waiting for? I've finished for this week!!!
After this last week I have to say, what a welcome back to England! The weather has been, how can I describe it? - Typically English!!! Accordingly no-one has been out very much. However, on Friday it was quite a nice day so Dad decided to go to Bath on the bus. Because he was going on the bus, Sydney & I went with him (Oh, and Mum, of course!). We went to the tow path where Sydney & I tucked into Blackberries, Elderberries and Hawthorn Berries (and covered Dad's shirt with purple spots, he-he-he!). We had some feast and it was delicious! We took some of the less squashy Hawthorn berries to add to those Stacey got and fed them to the others. Parrots love things like Blackberries, Elderberries and Hawthorn Berries from the hedgerows but you do need to make sure they haven't been sprayed with anything before feeding us. Dad knows British Waterways don't spray on the towpaths as they want to preserve wildlife and what's good enough for the wildlife is good enough for us! When our cages were cleaned out on Saturday it was pretty obvious what we'd been eating (if you understand what I mean!!!). Well I don't know what this week holds weather-wise but at the beginning of the week it is going to be stormy and Sydney wont be able to hold on to Dad's shoulder so we wont be going out!

Yesterday our Parrents took me and Sydney to the Calne Country Music Festival. I went a couple of years ago and enjoyed it a lot. We didn't go last year as we were near Lyon in France on our European Tour. I had been telling Sydney how good the Festival was all week and she finally got to find out all for herself. We arrived before 11:00 and had 11 hours of continual Country Music, until 22:00 when our parrents took us home as we were missing our sleep (well, you can't sleep with all that loud music going on and anyway, we wanted to listen!!!). The bands we saw were:- Smokey Mountain Boys, Snake Oil, Dave Montana, The Hanks, Bear Faced Country, and Jeff Gallant Band. Near the beginning, the generator ran out of diesel so all the power went off but, not to be beaten, Smokey Mountain Boys, unplugged their instruments, left their mics and walked up to the audience and played totally acoustically for 2 songs! We were sat right at the front and it was just as if they were singing to Sydney and me! During the day we nibbled (Dad calls it Grazing) on Carrot sticks, French Beans, Celery, Cucumber, and of course, Biscuits! We also tried Cherries for the first time ever. Dad says they are good for gout but I don't think me or Sydney get gout but he said they were still good for us. Having tried them we both decided we liked them and wanted some more. During the lunchtime they had a shooting competition but it didn't bother Sydney and me - we just stayed to watch the music! There were several stalls there selling mainly Country & Western clothing or food but Dad found a Country & Western Toy stall and looked for some small stetsons for me and Syd so we could have our own Stetsons but he couldn't find any! Hmmm, I quite fancy a Stetson too!!! Below are the bands we saw and listened to:- Today our Dad had to go to Bath on the bus. It was such a nice day, he decided to take some of us Fids along. Now Sydney & I are the only 2 of the fids that are generally acceptable on the bus because we sit still, don't flap and don't mess on the floor! None of the other fids, although probably OK, can be guaranteed not to flap and some of the other passengers don't like flapping birds. Also we are the only "house-trained" fids and the bus drivers keep moaning in case we mess so, whenever Dad is going on the bus it's Sydney and me who go with him.. When we got there, we sat on a seat outside McDonalds for a coffee and there were loads of kids from a local school doing a survey who all came up to talk to us and to hold me (Sydney is still a bit unpredictable for being held) and a German family came up and Adam started speaking German to them (show off!!!). We then had to get on another bus to go to the outskirts of Bath and back again and then back home!
When we got home and Sydney & I went back in our cages; it was Jasper and Phoebe's turn to go out. Stacey and our Dad put their harnesses on and took them for a short walk to see how they got on. Jasper is an escape artist and unfastens his usual harness so they had a "special" harness for him which he couldn't undo (Parrents 1 : Jasper 0). Phoebe had the normal harness but a bright yello one to remind her what her pink front should look like! She found it a bit difficult to balance in the wind to start with but soon found a comfortable place on Dad's shoulder. All in all the first outings for Jasper & Phoebe were a great success!!! Well on 8/4 Sydney and I set off with our Mum & Dad for our Easter Hols. Our destination was a small CL site near Truro. We were both soooo excited – when we arrived on site they uncovered us and we didn’t stop talking for hours! It was a nice site and we were the only ones on it! One problem for our parrents was they couldn’t receive any TV but they made up for it by staying out later with us and watching DVDs. We had a brilliant time in Cornwall visiting loads of interesting places and many beautiful gardens. It was not just the colours that were beautiful (I mean, us fids have got loads of beautiful colours between us!) but the smells of some of the flowers were amazing. Not just in the gardens either – the Gorse and Bluebells in the countryside were very strongly scented. The following Wednesday, Stacey came to stay with us for a week until it was time for our parents to move back to Crediton for the Easter week-end. On one particular day we went to Trebah Gardens. They were very nice gardens that used to be owned by Donald Healey of the sports car fame. The gardens go down to a private beach and Stacey took me and Sydney in for a paddle. It was a bit cold at first but I enjoyed it but Sydney, the wuss, was not so keen at first – I think she feels the cold more than me. She soon got used to it though and we had a good splash about! I’ve been to Crediton before and told Sydney all about it. She hasn’t ben because we were in Europe last year. There have been some changes to the site – the lake is smaller and there is more seating including a nice seat which our parents used most days right beside the lake. The weather in both Cornwall & Devon was superb most of the time and our parents were wearing their shorts to get some colour before we go to the south of France for the summer! We visited some old haunts like Okehampton, Meldon, Crediton and Sourton and, guess what, our parents even took us to the Waie Inn at Zeal Monachorum (my! That’s a daft name for a village!!! I suppose Suki might manage it but there’s not much chance of me and Sydney getting our beaks around that!!!). All the staff took it in turns to come out to the garden to see us. We felt so important!!! On Monday 25th we had to come home for 2 and a half days as our Mum had to work but this afternoon we are going back down again for another long week-end. Stacey is coming as well this time. I will update more next week! |
