Oscar - Hahns Macaw
It was on one holiday that, while visiting a pet shop for more food, I saw and fell in love with a Hahns Macaw (dob:- 2010). Hahn's Macaws are just like their big brothers with the bare cheeks but in miniature - only the size of a Cockatiel! He came straight up to me for tickles and I wanted to hold him so a member of staff took me and the cage to a back room and tried to get him out. He was having none of it so she went to seek help and while she was gone I put my hand in the cage and he stepped straight up. This was all the confirmation I needed. We didn’t have a spare cage with us – only a travel cage for the Amazons which was too small for any length of time so we agreed to go and collect him the evening before we set off home so he only had 24 hours in the small travel cage. When we got home we put him in a bigger cage and he was soooooo happy. He has since learned to say things like, Hello, Hello Oscar, Up, Good Boy. He is so energetic and always on the go, playing and amusing himself. I did clip his wings but he flaps so fast that it had no effect! My daughter has taught him to lie on his back, ride on a pull along car and is currently teaching him to stack wooded rings on a post! He really is so playful and such a quick learner.
