Polly - Double Yellow Headed Amazon
Polly is a Double Yellow Headed Amazon (Amazona Ochrocephala Oratrix aka Amazona Oratrix Oratrix). Her Hatch date was 24th May 2014 and she is definitely a Female. She is not one of our birds but a Rescue Bird from Birdline Parrot Rescue (for whom I am a Rescue Manager). She was only 15 months old when handed in to us and was handed in because she was too noisy. Well, all things are relative, and whilst she may have been noisy to the family that owned her, to me she is no more noisy than most Amazons and, especially as I love Ammies so much, I decided to take her on. She came in as a potential showbird and as I use a lot of my own birds as show birds it was nice to be able to have a Birdline Show Bird! Is she a show bird? Well, I don't know, but I think so. She came with a good Vocabulary; Hello; Hello Polly; What ya doing; Good Girl; and she sings Polly put the Kettle on! She has learnt, Up; Hello Baby and continues to learn. She is great interacting with most people and this is an area we want to develop. She is currently in our bedroom getting one to one attention as she is in quarantine. Once through that procedure, we will have to see how she reacts to the other birds in the birdroom but, en route to me, she was in a house with other birds and dogs so I am hopeful she will be just fine! As you can see from the picture, she is currently learning how to use a teaspoon! She came to us in September 2015 and she has settled in really well.
