2021 incident (Mack Vs Rat)In 2021 Mack came home with some abscesses on the side of his chest. It was highly likely that they had come from a rat which had faught back against him during a hunting session. Mack was always known for his hunting and it wasn't uncommon for him to pick on the more risky animals at time.
This time, the rat bit back and Mack ended up having a series of multiple mini-abscesses throughout the side of his chest area. Thankfully, none had gone as deep as the lung space or it could have been a very different outcome. Mack underwent a 3+hour surgery and also a second surgery 7days later to try and manage the infections. True to his nature, he tollerated everything so well and, even though uncomfortable, was very good with having wounds flushed, dressed and managed twice every day minimum. He was restricted indoors and mostly into the bathroom as his space. Through one point, a buster collar wasn't enough and he needed a baby grow to allow the wound to heal. We cannot fault Mack for his patient kindness and was a super-star throughout. He fully healed 3 months later and is no longer an outdoor cat by choice of his. |
Mack - Mackerel Tabby
We got Mack in December 2013 to replace Mischief. When he came to us he was filthy and flea and worm ridden. We bathed him and treated him andafter a week or so he was cured of his ills. He settled in well although kept battling with Nuala for the Top Cat position, that she felt was hers. Eventually he realised he was not going to be Top Cat while she was around and accepted it.
