Sydney - Blue Fronted Amazon
One of the Cockatoos I enquired about was in Nottingham but had already gone however the lady said she was also selling a male Blue-fronted Amazon and she would very much like him to go to me. I wasn’t looking for another Amazon but I felt sorry for this lady who was taking her family back to the Far East and needed to rehome her birds, so we went to see him. Of course, that was a mistake! I instantly fell in love, remembering Bobby who I had rehomed all that time ago, so we agreed to buy him. His name was Sidney and he was brilliant (dob:- 1/11/2008). This was one of the rare occasions where we weren’t going to take his cage as I believed it too small. He came home in a travel cage for the 4 hr journey and once home we had to get a cage down from the loft to put him in. This we did and he settled in very well. Incidentally I got him sexed soon after bringing him home and, just like Billie, he turned out to be a she; so we changed the spelling of the name to Sydney which can also be a girl’s name and she effectively kept her name. She instantly took to a harness (although it does take two to put it on her initially) so now both the Amazons come on holiday with us in our caravan. Sydney took part in our 2010 Europe trip and has visited:- France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy - another well travelled bird!
