Safehouse Bird 02 - D - Blue & Gold Macaw
We will call Safehouse bird 02 D. D is believed to be female and was collected on 27/11/11. She is fully feathered (just to show Phoebe what she should look like!). She favours women but is not too bad with men. She is much better with men when she is well away from her cage where she appears to be a bit territorial. She is currently 5 years old. Her first owner was a man but she has been with Birdline for 18 months and most of that time has been spent with a female carer in a safehouse. She has now come to me and I am hoping I can get her a bit more men friendly. She spent time out on my arm in the lounge yesterday evening and has been up here in the Study on my shoulder this morning. She is not very good at coming out of her cage for me - goes into attack mode and when I don't retreat she retreats! Stacey can get her out fine though. We have some work to do with D but hopefully over the coming weeks or months we will see some progress. She is quite a bit smaller than Phoebe and it will be ineteresting to compare her weight to Phoebe's.
Safehouse Bird 02 is......................Doris!
On 9/12/11 Doris went to her new, hopefully forever, home. We met the Rehoming Manager at Gordano Services where Doris was transfered ready for her trip further north. She has been great for the short time we safehoused her. She was great with Me and even let Gill do her quills. She quickly bacame happy to let me take her out of her cage and put her back in it. She is missed already but when she came we knew it was only temporary (although we did expect to have her for a little longer!). Safehouse Bird 01 is now on her own in the Utility Room but there is another story attached to her!
