Max - Scarlet Macaw
In 1991 we bought Max, the Scarlet Macaw.(dob:- 2/4/1990). I had always wanted a Macaw and when we saw Max we fell in love with him. He was English bred and rung (which was later to cause a problem!) and we bought him and took him home from the Cage & Aviary Bird Show on a coach. Max caused a bit of concern when he squeezed his ring so that it was squashing his ankle. The only thing I could do was to cut it off for his own safety and we had to explain to the authorities why we had done this as he is a CITES Appx 1 species. I keep referring to him as him but in later years we had him DNA sexed as a Female (but she still gets called a good boy!). Max is the middle child with her hatchday being in the middle between Adam and Stacey.
Several other parrots then passed through our hands but, owing to our ignorance, work commitments and bringing up 2 very small children, we had to rehome them. They include Bobby the Blue Fronted Amazon (I never ever got over letting Bobby go!), Dexter the Lesser Sulphur Crested Cockatoo and Buster the Umbrella Cockatoo (who was actually a cousin of the famous Cockatoo that Johnny Morris used to have on his famous children’s programme, Animal Magic). Since I retired over 10 years ago and started to have the time for the Parrots, our feathered family has grown....and grown.....and grown!!! We still had Max as she was a life-long ambition of mine.

Max gets brave! (Oct 2011)
Max is notoriously fussy about what stands he will sit on what he wont! We have countless problems with her. He hated the last stand we had in the lounge so we replaced it with a large Java Tree. The Java tree looks much nicer and more natural in the lounge but it has taken about 2 weeks to get Max used to it. However she now likes it and is happy to sit on it.
